The mountain claimed the most victims in 2014, when 17 people died up there.

This year may be one of the deadliest years on Mount Everest: 12 climbers have already lost their lives this season, three more – including Szilárd Suhajda – are currently being sought, writes the ExplorersWeb.

According to the paper, the 12th climber, the Canadian Petrus Swart, died on Thursday. The man developed acute altitude sickness during the summit climb. They were able to help him down to camp 3, but he died there.

The most tragic season on the world’s highest mountain, the 8,848-meter-high Mount Everest, was in 2014, when 17 people died up there. Fifteen Nepalese helpers were killed by an avalanche, two people lost their lives due to health reasons.

The ExplorersWeb it is not entirely clear how many search and rescue operations are currently taking place on the mountain, because not all of them have been reported. Two climbers went missing days ago, one of them is a deaf climber, Hawari Bin Hashim, who was last seen last weekend at Camp 4, and Shrinivas Sainis Dattatraya, who fell from 8,500 meters on the Tibetan side of the mountain.

Also, there are at least two saves currently in progress. A team of three Sherpas set out to find Szilárd Suhajda, ideally they can reach him on May 26, local time in the evening hours.

At the same time, Imagine Nepal is helping a 60-year-old Chinese woman down the mountain. The woman became snow blind shortly after reaching the summit on Thursday. It is Mingma G, the leader of the Imagine Nepal expedition ExplorersWebnek that the woman is currently in camp 4 of Lhoce.
