The Fallout 4 next-gen update has finally arrived, which adds many new features to the RPG and fixes several bugs in the game. However, the most important for many will undoubtedly be the new Quality and Performance mode options of the Xbox Series X|S.
According to Bethesda, Performance mode targets 60fps and 4K resolution with dynamic resolution scaling, while Quality mode runs the game at 4K/30fps and “does not require dynamic scaling.”

It is interesting that if the Xbox is connected to a 120 Hz display, the Quality mode targets 40fps. If connected to a 1440p display, Bethesda says Fallout 4 “will run at 1440p at 60 FPS on ultra settings, regardless of render mode.”
In addition to these, the next-gen update also brings a number of fixes, as well as free Creation Club content for all players. The free content includes some new missions and a bunch of weapons and items. On Xbox Series X, the update size is 22.59 GB.
It’s no surprise that the update just arrived, as Amazon Prime Video’s Fallout series has seen hordes of gamers flock to Fallout titles. A post on the game’s official X account revealed that Fallout 76 was played by one million people “in a single day” following the TV series’ release on April 10.
Plus, it’s not even the most popular Fallout game right now: according to SteamDb, Fallout 4 is. What’s more, the title has quietly crept into the top 10 list of PC games played on Steam, jumping from 18-20 thousand concurrent players before the TV show to a peak of over 164 thousand on Sunday, April 21st.
