The candidates of Donald Tusk’s party won in the majority of the big cities in the local elections in Poland

--

In the majority of Polish cities, the mayoral candidates of the ruling Civic Coalition (KO) won this year’s local elections, where the mayors and the representatives of the three-level (municipal, district and voivodeship) self-government bodies are decided, according to the final results of the second round of voting announced on Monday. writes MTI.

We wrote more about the results of the first round and the significance of the entire election in this article. On April 21, a second round was held in those settlements where none of the candidates reached 50 percent.

According to the data of the national election commission (PKW), the participation rate was 44.06 percent. In the first round, 51.94 percent of those eligible to vote voted.

In the first round of the 18 voivodeship centers on April 7, the candidate of the KO and the independent politician supported by the KO won in 9 places, including in Warsaw.

In the second round, the candidate supported by KO won in another 8 cities.

There are 16 voivodships in Poland, but 2 voivodships have two seats each, one for the elected general assembly, the other for the office representing the central executive power locally. In the first round, the previously ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party received 34.3 percent of the votes nationally, while the KO obtained 30.6 percent of the votes.

Based on the results of April 7, KO together with other government coalition partners will control 11 voivodeships, and PiS will control at least 4 voivodeships. A coalition with a PiS majority in a voivodeship is not out of the question. PiS, on the other hand, won a majority in the district municipalities.

On Sunday evening, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk wrote on X in response to the exit poll results: it looks like KO has won the second round. “We will not stop!” he added.

Responding to the Prime Minister’s post, PiS spokesman Rafal Bochenek wrote on X that Poland “does not only consist of big cities”, in smaller settlements “hundreds of mayors supported by PiS won a spectacular victory over KO candidates”.
