A volunteer firefighter in Gerebes wanted to get to the mountain called Ľadonhora on a hiking trail when a bear attacked him, Új Szó reported on Sunday evening.

The mayor of the village reported that in the morning they attended a professional presentation together with the fireman, then the man called him in the afternoon that he had been attacked by a bear. He added,

the beast bit the man’s left inner thigh.

The firefighter also suffered bruising to his right hip. His loved ones rushed to his aid, and finally his wife took him to the hospital.

“He was in shock, very frightened. I immediately notified the intervention team, as soon as they arrive, we will go to the scene,” said the mayor.

As we wrote, bear attacks are increasing in Slovakia, a few days ago two hikers were seriously injured by an animal. The hikers allegedly deviated from the designated route, and after the attack they had to be taken to the hospital by an ambulance helicopter. Due to the increasing number of attacks, the Slovak parliament is planning to relax the permission to shoot bears.
