The official world premiere of Concept #5 will be held on Friday by Smart, the German-turned-Chinese brand that produces all kinds of electric goods instead of small cars.
Here we have this concept car, which is not only much bigger than anything we’ve seen from Smart, but also leaves the city limits to treat its passengers to tough overlanding adventures. This is ensured by the massive front and rear protective plates, the minimal overhangs resulting in good off-road angles, the hidden winch, the fold-out rear step, and the off-road headlight fitted to the windshield frame.

The all-glass roof and the cross-shaped roof rack are of course just a sprinkle of dust: the main thing is the robust crossover format and the 800 V electric drivetrain, thanks to which the battery with a capacity exceeding 100 kWh can be charged to 80% in 15 minutes. And its range reaches 550 kilometers (WLTP value), which is not an exceptionally good value for a battery of this size, but the drive chain surely knows something that the manufacturer has not yet revealed – although, looking at the bodywork, it may have quite a high resistance to the medium, which is known not to do good for consumption.
However, the Concept #5 is not only electric, it is also partly self-driving, and it takes over some of the tasks from the driver not only on the highway, but also in the city.
The infotainment interface consisting of three displays may also go into series production. Two monitors use OLED technology, a speaker that can be brought out into the dashboard has been built in, and the front passenger seat can be tilted into a zero-gravity resting position and can also be massaged.
It is said that an innovative airbag was also installed in the seat, but we do not have detailed information about this.
In addition to all these functions, Smart is also looking for the right way and tool to use artificial intelligence on board. The study car’s advanced voice control and virtual assistant function also use this.
