The militant Islamist organization Hamas will arrive in Cairo with a delegation on Monday for the purpose of negotiations in preparation for a cease-fire, an official of the organization, speaking anonymously, told the Reuters news agency on Sunday.

In the meantime, the mediators are doing their best to reach an agreement before the planned Israeli attack on Rafah.

The participants of the negotiation in the Egyptian capital will review the cease-fire proposal handed over by Hamas to Qatar and Egypt, as well as Israel’s response, the official added. The details of the proposed solutions have not yet been made public.

The war, which has been going on for seven months, was sparked by an attack on Israel by Hamas on October 7 last year, in which, according to Israeli calculations, 1,200 people died and 253 hostages were taken. Israel has completed the elimination of Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, in the military operation which, according to the Gaza health authorities, has killed more than 34,000 Palestinians, 66 of them in the last 24 hours, the international news agency wrote. During the war, most of Gaza’s population of 2.3 million was displaced, and much of the densely populated enclave was destroyed by the Israeli army.
