The difficult integration of immigrants, the strengthening of radical Islam, as well as acts of terrorism were all grist to the mill of the extremists. Their characteristic is that they promote the protection of traditional values and want to put an end to the invasion of foreigners, the French newspaper wrote.

The more moderate parties also aligned themselves one by one with what the Hungarian Prime Minister – who has been trying to stop the wave of immigration for nine years – announced. What’s more, the People’s Party is already on the point of deporting asylum seekers to third countries so that they can wait there until a decision is made on their case. However, the Commission is so far unwilling to adopt this idea, because it would put an end to the right to asylum.

Extremists do well with Austrians, French, Italians, Poles, Dutch, Belgians, Hungarians, Czechs and Slovaks. This means that the two affected Strasbourg factions are expected to strengthen: the ECR and the ID, and they may push the liberals down to 5th place.

For the first time, the right-wing and far-right parties may gain a majority, although it is unlikely that they will be able to enforce their increased support, as there are fundamental ideological differences between them. But they will still be able to influence legislation in an unprecedented way, which is expected to shift to the right.
