It has a little twist.

In recent years, we have become accustomed to the fact that from time to time various Italian villages have started selling their properties for one euro in order to prevent the settlement from becoming depopulated. This time, a small French town is trying something similar, reports CNBC.

The municipality of Saint-Amand-Montrond is offering a 77 square meter, two-story, two-bedroom property for one euro. The house has a garden area and a garage and is located in the center of the city.

On the other hand, it is stipulated as a condition for the buyer that the building must be renovated, since no one has lived in it for the past 12 years. The municipality estimates the cost of the renovation at approximately 130,000 euros, converted to nearly 48 million forints. At the same time, this is still cheaper than someone buying an already renovated house in the settlement.

Of course, the buyer must undertake to settle in the city with a population of nine thousand. Applications can be submitted until June 15, and the renovation plan must also be part of this. Anyone who wants to use it as a holiday home or rent out the property will definitely not be the winner.

Saint-Amand-Montrond, located in the central part of France, already tried something similar in 2021, ninety people applied for the property advertised at that time. In the end, it was bought by a family that had never seen the property in person. The renovation work there must be completed by the end of 2025 at the latest.
