According to satellite images obtained by Reuters, a Russian cargo ship sanctioned by the United States is docked in a Chinese port. There is no justification whatsoever behind the punitive measures targeting the ship, because according to the American suspicion, it could have been used in North Korea’s arms deliveries to Russia. The news agency reports that the satellite images add to concerns that Beijing is supporting Moscow’s war in Ukraine.

According to the British think tank Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), the Russian ship Angara, which has been transporting thousands of containers to Russian ports since August 2023, believed to contain North Korean ammunition, has been anchored in a Chinese shipyard in the eastern province of Zhejiang since February. All of this is particularly worrisome given that Ukraine is running low on ammunition and US officials are issuing increasingly pointed warnings about what they say is China helping Russia rebuild its military after early setbacks in the Ukraine war.
The presence of Angara in China, as well as the issue of support, will certainly be a key issue during US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s upcoming visit to Beijing, Reuters added.
