A dolphin was shot in the United States, reports ABC News. The deceased animal was found on a beach in Louisiana, with injuries that may have been caused by a firearm.

During the autopsy of the carcass, the experts established that the young bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) is indeed a firearm graduate. Several bullets were found in the body, including one that wounded the animal’s heart, spinal cord and brain.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the dolphin’s death and are asking anyone with information to contact them. A reward of 20,000 dollars, or more than HUF 7 million, is offered to the trail leader.

Dolphins, along with all other aquatic mammals, are protected animals in the United States and are strictly prohibited from harming, harming, or killing them. Those who do this can be fined 100,000 dollars (more than HUF 36 million) or sentenced to one year in prison.
