Balatoni Hajózási Zrt. started the 178th sailing season with four new ships, which can now be tested free of charge.

In addition to the two new ferries designed for Lake Balaton, two new catamarans have arrived on Lake Balaton, one of which will serve in the western basin. From spring, passengers can meet the Tomaj ship on the busiest Fonyód-Badacsony route. Those interested could get to know the new catamaran as part of the traditional Fonyód-Badacsony sailing season opening ceremony and go on a free cruise between the two settlements. This marked the beginning of BAHART’s boat presentation roadshow, during which the “newcomers” of the fleet will be presented in several Balaton settlements, infostart.hu reports.

The fleet expansion, carried out with a state subsidy of more than six billion forints, and the four new ships represent a development not seen in 40 years. The inauguration of the two ferries and the two catamarans took place at the 178th sailing season opening, after which both ferries started transporting passengers in mid-March, and the new catamarans were presented to the public in several ports before entering service.

The next stop of the boat presentation roadshow was the traditional season opening ceremony between Fonyód and Badacsony held on Saturday, April 20. The event began with the laying of a wreath on Lake Balaton, after which those interested could try out the new boat running between Fonyód and Badacsony as part of a free cruise.

The new catamaran will serve as a scheduled and program ship in the region, ensuring a more intensive summer schedule.

The new ships will welcome Balaton passengers at their final duty station during the spring. The Tomaj catamaran will travel between Fonyód and Badacsony, the Balaton catamaran will serve in the Siófok – Balatonfüred – Tihany triangle, and the Tihany and Szántód ferries will transport passengers between the ships, which enables more comfortable and more frequent crossings between the two coasts.

More information about the ships’ routes and the schedule can be found at www.bahart.hu.

Those interested will be able to meet the new boats next on April 27th at Balatonboglár on the opening day of the Balaton Csavargőzös Műemlékhájó, and on May 26th in Keszthely and try them out as part of a free cruise. The new catamaran will also welcome children and adults with a special children’s circus program on the occasion of Children’s Day.
