The fine will catch up with everyone: this is how they will ensure that you don’t get away with it if you have sinned

--

Currently, 40 percent of those who commit traffic violations abroad do not pay the fines imposed on them across the border.

The authorities of the European Union have been struggling with this situation for a long time: the representatives of the European Parliament now they nodded to a package of suggestionsaccording to which a much stricter picture of the future emerges.

Authorities operating in individual member states would be obliged to cooperate more closely.

In practice, this may mean that if one member state contacts another in connection with a traffic violation, then the guilty country you must respond to it within two months.

Member States would be given a deadline of 30 months to build the system. In the new line-up, it would also be possible for the violation to have occurred abroad, the country in which the offender lives should be able to collect the fine for him, if the amount of the fine is higher than 70 euros. This tool will be used if the country where the incident took place was unable to pay the penalty even after using all legal tools.

The following cases are expected to be handled in the cross-border system:

  • speeding
  • drunk driving
  • failure to stop at a red light
  • dangerous parking
  • dangerous overtaking
  • tape limit crossing
  • letdown.

Motorists must also be informed about the fines

The violation the Member State where the infringement occurred has 11 months after its commission to initiate the process. In addition to the date and circumstances of the violation, the notice must also include the method of appeal.

At the same time, private debt collectors cannot be employed in order to force guilty drivers to pay.

The European Parliament has already accepted the plans, they will now be submitted to the Council. If their reception is positive there, an informational online interface will have to be created that will be accessible to everyone informs about the rules, appeal options, and also includes the amount of traffic fines applied. It is an advantage for the member states that they will not have to deal with nearly half of the penalties imposed on the basis of violations by foreigners, and it is also likely that traffic will become safer on European roads, if motorists know, the chances are much lower get away with a checkas before.
