According to the CEO, the acceleration of the green transition would endanger the security of supply and would also cost “an awful lot”. According to Lakatos, the transition can be achieved at a “sustainable” speed by around 2050, but this would also require “community planning”, because without this, as he put it, the process will not be balanced. This would mean that the continent would lose its remaining competitiveness, and the industries still here would relocate elsewhere. Lakatos also cautioned against “one-size-fits-all” solutions, emphasizing that every country “design your energy mix in such a way that it is as diversified as possible, as cheap as possible, and based on your local positions as much as possible”.

He cited the Hungarian solar power plants as an example, in this area “we overtrained our right arm,” he said. That is why it would be important to develop as many power generation solutions as possible in the central areas, which can offset weather-dependent renewable energy production.
