A pigeon smuggled in a bag was released in the European Parliament

--

Astounding scenes took place at the last plenary session of the European Parliament on Wednesday. In his last speech on peace, Slovakian MEP Miroslav Radačovský reached into his bag, took out a pigeon and set it free in the chamber.

According to the Guardian article, with this gesture he wished peace to the whole world, the Russians and the Ukrainians.

“I would like to release this dove as a symbol of peace. As a symbol that Europe needs peace. Let this dove unite us all!”

– said the Slovak EP representative, but not everyone in the room appreciated the action.

Caroline Roose, French MEP for the Greens, called it completely unacceptable that Radačovský used a live animal as a simple object to express his desire for peace.

“Can you catch the animal?” they asked the representative. As the pigeon fluttered around the chamber, Jan-Christoph Oetjen, the deputy speaker of the parliament, said he would report this to the president, adding: “We hope the animal will be fine.”
