The police opened fire on a man trying to escape from an identity card on the night of Sunday in the northern Romanian city of Dorohoi, the Botosani County Police Department announced. The 25-year-old Romanian citizen transporting Ukrainian contraband was injured, was taken to the hospital, his condition is stable, and he is under medical observation.

The Dorohoi traffic police tried to get the driver of the suspicious vehicle certified around midnight. At first he appeared to comply, but when officers approached the door, he sped away. The police began to chase, and during the journey they fired several shots: first warning shots, and then they fired at the vehicle. After a five-kilometer chase, they managed to force him to stop in the Saucenita settlement.

The injured driver was taken to hospital. In the car of the 25-year-old Sucsava county resident, 93 refrigerant bottles from Ukraine were found, the origin of which he could not prove. The police opened proceedings on suspicion of classified smuggling and bodily harm.
