“The wing of death sweeps over the one who disturbs the sleep of the pharaoh” – after more than 100 years, the secret of the “curse of the pharaohs” was revealed

--

Researchers have finally solved the nature of one of the oldest and best-known curses. Tutankhamun’s tomb was discovered more than 100 years ago in 1922, but after the excavations, a series of tragedies began. Four of the men involved in the opening of the tomb died within a few months, but there was also a member of the group who who died under mysterious circumstances 16 years after the discovery of the tomb. After that, one of the nurses participating in the healing of the archaeologists also lost her life. In total, more than 17 people lost their lives due to the Pharaoh’s curse, most of them were either directly involved in the excavations or were relatives.

For a long time, people thought that the deaths were due to the “curse of the pharaoh”, but now, thanks to modern science, it has become clear why the vigorous young men among the archaeologists died one after another.

The DailyStar reported on recent research from the Jornal of Scientific Exploration (JSE), which showed that ancient tombs in Egypt were full of radioactive radiation, which was enough to cause cancer and radiation contamination to those who entered. And this cost archaeologists their lives in the long run. It seems that the Egyptians who lived thousands of years ago suspected that in the future tomb robbers would try to open the ancient tombs, so they placed a warning at Tutankhamun’s tomb:

The wing of death sweeps over the one who disturbs the pharaoh’s sleep

– but the archaeologists did not care about this and broke open the entrance to the chamber, as we know afterwards, to their loss.
