Sympathizers from the right, left, center and from the camp of those who have not voted so far come to Péter Magyar’s rural events. The politician aiming to overthrow the government visited Baranya and Tolna in recent days, we asked the audience of the meetings why they wanted to meet the leader of the Tisza Party list?

I’m sick of everything being stolen!! Someone has to defeat Orbán to put an end to this! – blurted out the 79-year-old Sándor Domonkos, who drove from Bonyhád to Zomba on Tuesday afternoon to listen to Péter Magyar.

That is why none of the speakers in Zomba wanted to add their names to their words.

My son could be in trouble, said a middle-aged woman in her sixties who was once a small farmer and turned against Fidesz when she believed Orbán had ruined the small farmer party.

A retired electrician said that he sees that Magyar is acting hard against this, and that is why he will support him. I remarked to him that all the opposition parties are constantly talking about Fidesz being corrupt, why didn’t he support them?

I know, and that’s why I voted for the Socialists until now, but they couldn’t convince people that Fidesz steals everything. Magyar, on the other hand, will know, because he has evidence in his hands, since he came from among them.

A 38-year-old man working in the public administration finds it intolerable that Fidesz centralizes everything, that the professionals working in the authorities often act on the unprofessional orders of the heads of government offices appointed on political grounds, and that only one textbook can be used in school, the one that Fidesz written according to his own taste. The man, who is raising two school-aged children, is confident that if Hungary wins, we will have a democratic country again, and that democracy and diversity will also appear in textbooks.

The previous opposition also wanted democracy – I interrupted – what will make Péter Magyar more successful?

György Atyánszky, a former member of parliament, also believed in this. The 77-year-old smallholder politician living in Baja also came to Zomba to listen to Péter Magyar.

Orbán cannot be beaten either from the right or from the left, only from the middle – argued Atyánszky. – There are 3 million people in the center, they need to be addressed, and Péter Magyar can do that. But only if you go to the villages. Orbán cannot be defeated without convincing the rural people.

He began his speech by saying that – just like Hungary – Szekszárd deserves more, because the well-endowed city has not been developing properly for years, while the businesses of the former mayor and current member of parliament, who controls Szekszárd from the background, are developing nicely (the speaker is clearly referring to István Horváth of Fidesz hated). About one and a half thousand people listened to Péter Magyar’s government critic’s speech at the county seat in Tolna with frequent expressions of approval. Before and after the meeting, I also asked the audience what brought them to the event.

So that this country remains for our grandchildren and great-grandchildren – began Károlyn Vida from Szekszárd, who retired from the Paks power plant. – I voted for Fidesz three times, but two years ago I realized that they were deceiving us, and since then I don’t believe them. There has never been such hatred in this country, they destroy every community with it and steal everything in the process.

Vidáné’s three girlfriends, who are also retired, nodded in agreement, two of them once served in the police. All four of them believed that Péter Magyar would be able to stop the hatred and the thefts of the power elite.

Attila, a 52-year-old agricultural engineer, defined himself as a conservative right-winger, so there is no suitable party for him since the termination of the MDF. The man – like his wife and twenty-year-old son – believed that Péter Magyar’s party could be a similar power center as the MDF was.

Ferdinánd Bolvári, the independent candidate for mayor of Kalocsa, also listened to Péter Magyar at Szekszád. He was accompanied by Zsolt Hornyák, who will also run as an independent candidate in the Kalocsa election. Both believed that Péter Magyar’s words criticizing the government are authentic because he left the government side behind. They did not accept that this would be treason, if the government is dishonest, then it is a duty to act against it, not treason. Bolvári had this to say about his chances against Fidesz:

Today, everyone is talking about him, the painter, the shutter fitter, the engineer, the teacher, everyone. 30-40 percent of the people here have never been to a political event before. They came because of him. That means something.

And indeed: I spoke with dozens of young people from Szekszárd who participated in a political rally for the first time. Several people emphasized that they would never vote for Fidesz under any circumstances, but the opposition did not convince them, moreover, the fact that despite their cooperation, Fidesz dealt them a big blow, they lost the desire to vote for them.

Ákos, who is also 26 years old and works in a factory, had a similar opinion:

The way he talks is nice, but he’s been here for too short a time, he’s still a bit “thin” for me as a political figure, I dare to hope cautiously. I don’t want to be judged by how many likes it gets, that will lead you astray. But now it really seems that young people who didn’t vote until now might be paying attention to him.

By the way, I heard similar opinions in Pécs the day before. At the same time, there were several people who admitted that they only came to see the list leader of the Tisza Party out of curiosity, because they do not trust that Fidesz can be replaced. One of them, 51-year-old László Szabó, who works in the construction industry, spoke as follows:

I was a Jobbikist, but when the party merged with the left, I voted for Mi Hazánk. I’ll get to them next time. We don’t win though. We will never win, but with my values I can only vote for them. And no one else can defeat Orbán, because he manipulates people so skillfully with the government media. It totally fools them. All opposition politicians here have a tissavirág life, they are slaughtered by the government media. Just think of Márki-Zay! Péter Magyar will also be attacked until he disappears. Even Magyar cannot replace Orbán, at most he will be able to replace the current opposition and Gyurcsány. This is also something, to see if the opposition will be stronger because of it. But the Orbán regime will only fail if Orbán retires quietly. It’s bad to think about what’s left after…
