Marcus Stoinis opened up on his snub from the Australia central contracts after his match-winning knock against CSK that helped LSG win the IPL 2024 match on Tuesday, April 23 by 6 wickets. Earlier in March, Stoinis and Ashton Agar did not find a place in the contracts. However, Stoinis has taken it in his stride and wished for the youngsters to do well for the national team.

Stoinis was at his very best against CSK after he scored an unbeaten 124 off 63 balls with the help of 13 fours and 6 sixes. On the back of his knock, the Super Giants chased down a mammoth target of 211 with 3 balls left in their innings.

“I’ve got a great relationship with the coach (Australian Head coach), I’m not getting a contract, I knew that long ago. It’s great to let the kids come in and get an opportunity, I’m happy to let them take my spot. But on the playing front, I’d like to play and contribute,” Stoinis told in the post-match presentation ceremony.

‘Just tried to keep it in control’

Stoinis took Mustafizur Rahman to the cleaners with LSG needing 17 runs to win off the last over. Stoinis did not lose his calm despite the required run-rate going above 13. Rather, he joined hands with Nicholas Pooran and Deepak Hooda to take LSG past the finish line.

“It’s not just go go go, there were some bowlers we wanted to target and some bowlers we wanted to be more cautious against. There was a phase where I wasn’t able to hit the boundaries so it was great Pooran could come in and take the pressure off. Lots of ebbs and flows, just tried to keep it in control.

“You’re planning and structuring, you’re not liking certain bowlers and you’re liking others more,” Stoinis added.

The Super Kings will next be up against Sanju Samson’s Rajasthan on Saturday, April 27 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.
