It was first introduced by prosecutors in a New York court the 34-count indictment their founding arguments, and then the defenders also present their initial position.

According to the indictment, Donald Trump committed economic crimes during his 2016 election campaign when he declared the payment of so-called silence funds as legal expenses.

Before the trial began, Judge Juan Merchan ruled that if Donald Trump took the stand, prosecutors could cross-examine him about his other business lawsuits, including the civil lawsuit in which he was fined hundreds of millions of dollars by another court. However, the judge did not allow the prosecution to show a film about Donald Trump in the courtroom.

Michael Cohen, Donald Trump’s former lawyer, who was previously convicted of perjury and other crimes, is scheduled to be one of the prosecution’s witnesses. The defense voiced its objection to the appearance of the former Trump lawyer as a witness, citing, among other things, that Michael Cohen declared in a public forum on Sunday that he wanted to see his former employer in prison.

Donald Trump told reporters in front of the courthouse that all the criminal proceedings against him are “Biden trials”, which are directed from Washington and whose purpose is to interfere in the elections. The campaign staff of Donald Trump, who is also running in this year’s presidential election, called District Attorney Alvin Bragg an elected Democrat politician in a statement issued on Monday, accused Judge Juan Merchan of bias towards Democrats, and described the indictment itself as weak.

Prior to Monday’s trial, one juror expressed reservations due to the heavy media attention surrounding the case, but after consulting with the judge, decided to remain on the jury. The composition of the jury consisting of 12 members and 6 alternate members took the entire past week.

The trial phase of the criminal case against Donald Trump related to the hush money is expected to last 4-6 weeks.

The trial, which began in New York, is unprecedented in American legal and political history, because criminal proceedings have never been initiated against a sitting president. A total of four criminal cases are pending against Donald Trump.
