Why is it that since 2016, 4 percent more Americans between the ages of 19-29 would vote for Donald Trump? Specifically, according to a Reuters/Ipsos survey, 24 percent of this age group voted for him in 2016, 26 percent four years later, and 2 percent more would vote for him this year – that is, 28 percent.

This is what the Reuters news agency sought to answer when it asked 20 pro-Trump young Americans on the subject. 19 of them are white, one is black and 9 are first-time voters.

In the case of 23-year-old and boyish-faced Isayah Turner, there is no need to be surprised. He is a typical Trump supporter. He runs a dog-breeding business with his mother, he is also in favor of oil extraction, like the de facto presidential candidate, and, like him, he opposes gun restrictions and illegal immigration.

“There’s not one thing I can say that would upset Trump as president. In the case of Biden, I disagree with a lot of things”

– He told.

However, other young voters have just turned away from the president – and may drift over to Trump’s camp, due to their support for Israel, which is waging a war in Gaza, and Biden’s age.

Reuters saw hundreds of young Trump supporters at a campaign event in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and said “there are signs that young people are slowly becoming friends with the Republicans.” This is despite Biden’s attempts to favor them, such as by forgiving student loans, expanding affordable housing, or rolling back abortion restrictions.

Most of the young Americans who responded to the news agency and appeared at the Trump campaign event said that they would vote for the ex-president because of inflation and the state of the economy. This group feels that life is more difficult due to price increases and is not impressed that unemployment is lower and stock prices are higher under Biden.

“I’m making a decent salary, but I can’t afford a home,” said Steve Wendt, 26, a hospital security guard, who said “it’s time for a

let a person sit in the office who will lower our prices”.

Most young respondents also agreed that Trump is not very enthusiastic about supporting Ukraine.

“I don’t really like what we are doing in Ukraine. When I hear Trump, he’s very patriotic, he says America comes first, and I like that,” explained Collin Crego, a 19-year-old student who believes that the money transferred abroad should be spent at home, for example on the fight against drug addiction.

Not a single young Republican was bothered by the four criminal cases against Donald Trump and his attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Caitlyn Huenink, 20, says other young people don’t like her Trump support, but she’s seen changes at her university lately.

“They’re more open, more of my friends have become Republicans,” he said.

However, this snapshot does not mean that Biden will begin to spectacularly lose young people, of whom 51 percent still want to vote for him.

based on the Economist/YouGov survey.
