The Central Statistical Office (KSH) has published its latest statistics on pensions and the situation of pensioners in Hungary, which were viewed by Telex. Based on the statistics, a trend was reversed at the beginning of this year: since the beginning of the year, the proportion of people dependent on the pension system has not decreased, but increased.
Although the number of old-age pension recipients has changed minimally over the past 12 years, the number of people receiving age-based benefits and benefits for people with altered working capacity has decreased significantly.
Out of turn
A cloudy, rainy Monday awaits us
According to KSH data, the proportion of beneficiaries within society decreased from 29.4 percent in 2012 to 25.1 percent in 2023; on the other hand, by the beginning of 2024, this proportion increased to 25.3 percent. The portal noted that the KSH did not say whether this was a one-time spike or an actual trend reversal.
A significant number of those receiving pension benefits receive between HUF 120,000 and HUF 300,000 per month, while 200,000 receive less than HUF 100,000. According to KSH, many of them receive a partial pension in addition to entitlements acquired abroad.
DO NOT MISS IT
It was also revealed that there are only 24,475 Hungarian pensioners who receive a pension of more than HUF 600,000. It was also revealed that at the beginning of 2024, pensions and other benefits were paid to 49,000 people living abroad, 74 percent of which were old-age pensions.
