There are many people who don’t want or can’t buy a top-of-the-line phone representing an absolute elite category, but they still want a device that stands out above the average. One of the most decisive players in the mobile sector, Samsung, offers them the Galaxy A55 phone, which is a device on the border between the middle and upper category.
Appearance: tasteful
As usual from the company, the model has a particularly tasteful appearance, which is nice to look at and nice to hold. The brushed aluminum frame is pleasant to the touch, you can immediately feel that it is not a cheap piece. The back panel covered with durable glass is especially elegant, the cameras are discreetly lined up one below the other, and there is no trace of the exaggerated bazaarism that is common with Chinese rivals these days.
The assembly is flawless, the model does not slide, the buttons are relatively comfortable to reach with one hand, provided that one’s hands are not too small.
Because it is a rather large device (161.1 x 77.4 x 8.2 mm), which can stick out of a small pocket. The huge positive is that it is officially water and dust resistant, as it has been awarded the IP67 certification. This is thanks to the fact that its screen also received the massive Gorilla Glass Victus+ glass, which is currently considered the best protective device that even protects the product from scratches.
Great image quality
Speaking of the display, it is important to point out that the company did not skimp on this area. This did not surprise me too much, as Samsung has always paid close attention to this. The 6.6-inch, self-developed and manufactured Super AMOLED technology, which guarantees a sufficiently high level of detail and a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, guarantees brutally good image quality. Colors that shine from within and are free of any kind of dullness will jump off the screen.
Blacks are fantastic and contrast is insanely good. The crowning glory is the brightness, which is spectacularly good, as everything remains clearly visible even in sunlight, and in the case of videos, content with a high dynamic range is very, very spectacular. By the way, here at Techbázis, we measured an average brightness of roughly 500 nits, so that it can jump up to 1500 nits for a short time, which is a great value.
We didn’t run into any problems when rendering movements, thanks to the maximum refresh rate of 120 Hz. So there were no stuttering, stuttering, or ghosting.
Photography and videography
Nowadays, you expect a good phone to be able to take great pictures and videos, and the Samsung Galaxy A55 does not disappoint in this regard. Of course, it is not at the same level as, for example, this year’s top devices from the company’s S24 family, since it lacks a camera equipped with optical zoom, which ensures the creation of excellent enlarged images. However, it is a fact that its 50 megapixel, f/1.8 aperture main camera ensures good pictures even at night, in low light.
