A new compact processor cooler was made in Noctua’s workshop, the foundations of the award-winning NH-L12S were used for it – iPon

--

The Noctua team created a new processor cooler, which continues on the path trodden by the highly popular NH-L12S model, but has improved in several areas compared to its predecessor. The version was named NH-L12Sx77, and as the name suggests, it comes in a 77 mm high design, i.e. exactly 7 mm higher than its predecessor.

This is basically only a minimal difference, but thanks to the extra engineering work, it was possible to make the new version much more widely compatible with different motherboards, as far as the cooling fins of the VRM circuit are concerned, but the extra height of 7 millimeters can also help the use of higher memory modules.

Instead of four, the new version now uses six heat pipes to dissipate the heat produced by the given processor, thus being able to cope with the heat generated when using high-end desktop processors. It now offers 44 millimeters of space for memory modules when the product is installed in normal mode, i.e. the bends of the heatpipes face the I/O ports.

The list of compatible memory modules can be viewed on the manufacturer’s website, where the list of compatible motherboards and processors can also be found. If the cooling fan is mounted on the top of the cooling block, there is already 56 millimeters of space for the memory modules, significantly expanding the range of compatible copies. The heat pipes and fins were fixed by soldering for even more efficient heat transfer and more stable operation.

The NH-L12Sx77 heatsink is 128 millimeters wide, 131 millimeters deep and 77 millimeters high, and weighs 410 grams. If the fan is installed below the cooling block, the mentioned values do not change, but if above it, the height increases by 15 millimeters. The total weight of the processor cooler is 520 grams.

The product comes with a thin design, only 15 millimeters thick Noctua NF-A12x15 PWM type fan, which works within the speed range between 450 RPM and 1850 RPM, so it can move a maximum of 94.2 cubic meters of air. The noise level is normally 23.9 dB(A), but this can be reduced to 16.8 dB(A) with the included LNA adapter, although the air delivery performance will then drop to 70.8 cubic meters per hour.

The new processor cooler is compatible with the most modern processor sockets from Intel and AMD, and can also be used for the later processors of the two companies, including the Arrow Lake models arriving in the LGA-1851 processor socket. The list of compatible processor sockets is included in the list below.

Intel

  • LGA1851, LGA1700, LGA1200, LGA1156, LGA1155, LGA1151, LGA1150

AMD

According to Noctua specialists, the new model is perfect for the Fractal Design Terra, SilverStone Milo ML12, or even the award-winning RAW S1 models, as well as for many computer cases that cannot fit the higher NH-C14S or NH-D9L, which respectively They are 115 and 110 millimeters high. The set includes the NT-H2 thermal paste, and the offset mode is also available with the mounting kit for AM5 processors, so the cooling of the chip can be optimal – a reduction of 1-3 degrees Celsius can be achieved.

The list price of the NH-L12Sx77, which comes with a six-year warranty, is 84.9 euros, and its distribution has already begun.
