Qualcomm finally presented the Snapdragon X series

--

The Elite and Plus series will debut in individual notebooks in the second half of the year.

In October last year, Qualcomm officially spoke about the Snapdragon X Elite series attacking mobile PCs, which has now actually been presented, so the specifications of the first models have also been revealed. The main weapon of the chip made on the 4 nm TSMC node is the processor cores code-named Oryon acquired through the acquisition of NUVIA, which are completely self-designed and can have a maximum of 12 of them within the system chip. In addition, the memory controller only supports the LPDDR5X standard, and the available effective clock signal is 8448 MHz. There is a total of 42 MB of cache in the entire chip, but the company did not reveal the exact distribution.

Unfortunately, the capabilities of the NPU and Adreno IGP are not really known, only the calculation speed is given, but that alone is not worth much without the details. What is certain, however, is that the system chip can handle a maximum of four displays, and 4K 120 Hz parameterization is also available for one display.

Regarding the other hardware elements, you can count on an 18-bit Spectra ISP, which handles 64 megapixel resolution for one camera, and 36-36 megapixel resolution for two cameras. All this does not seem like much, but the development itself is not aimed at ultra-mobile devices, so it was not intended to support more serious camera systems. For data storage, PCI Express 4.0 NVMe SSD is the main direction, but the design also supports UFS 4.0 and SD 3.0 standards.

The parameters of the arriving models are detailed in the table below:

Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite series
Type Turbo Clock Dual core turbo clock All caches IGP computing power NPU computing power
X1E-84-100 (12 cores) 3.8 GHz 4.2 GHz 42 MB 4.6 TFLOPS 45 TOPS
X1E-80-100 (12 cores) 3.4 GHz 4 GHz 42 MB 3.8 TFLOPS 45 TOPS
X1E-78-100 (12 cores) 3.4 GHz 42 MB 3.8 TFLOPS 45 TOPS
X1P-64-100 (10 cores) 3.4 GHz 42 MB 3.8 TFLOPS 45 TOPS

Qualcomm did not specify the TDP consumption range, but in principle this is because it can be played with on a relatively broad spectrum. The recommendation is 23 watts, and the reference designs are also made for this, but the manufacturing partners may deviate from this.

Along with the above series, the Snapdragon X Plus is also being prepared, which also uses the chip just presented, but with slightly dumbed down parameters, so you have to say goodbye to a couple of processor cores, for example. The following table details the parameters of the incoming model:

Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus series
Type Turbo Clock Dual core turbo clock All caches IGP computing power NPU computing power
X1P-64-100 (10 cores) 3.4 GHz 42 MB 3.8 TFLOPS 45 TOPS

The actual notebooks for Snapdragons intended for Windows AI PCs will arrive in the second half of the year, and the manufacturers themselves will talk about them in more detail.
