OpenAI’s GPT-4 language model can independently exploit 87 percent of the vulnerabilities exposed, a new study has shown. And this can also mean that artificial intelligence can be a serious weapon in the hands of hackers.
It answers complete questions, summarizes thousands of pages of studies, and looks for solutions to complex problems – artificial intelligence can help humanity in many areas, but from the very beginning, there is some fear surrounding the technology.
While Skynet isn’t knocking yet, a new study by computer scientists at the University of Illinois (UIUC) is causing some concern. This describes that the most advanced language model behind ChatGPT, GPT-4, can independently exploit security gaps in IT systems – following their description.

For their investigations, the researchers submitted a data set consisting of 15 so-called “one-day” vulnerabilities to GPT-4; among them there was also one with a critical severity rating. The reason for this is that the researchers did not have access to these, but they hope to be able to test them later.
