In 2020, Sonos, which travels in audio products, renewed the smartphone application that is essential for the use of its devices, this was the Sonos S2, which we are saying goodbye to this year, as the redesigned version of the application will arrive on May 7, 2024.
The new version will be available as an update, it will be compatible with all existing S2 products, and the new application will not only be usable via smartphone, but a web version will also be available.
According to the manufacturer, the renewed app provides simpler, faster and more convenient use than before.
One of the most important elements of the renewal is that in the new version it is no longer necessary to switch between the different tabs (they disappear completely from the bottom of the application), instead, the favorite content and the interface for managing devices will be available on the new home screen, which can be used in both light and dark mode , and the settings can be opened with a single swipe.
Another novelty is that the home screen can be customized, the user can decide what content and services to display next to each other, thus ensuring that they are available in seconds when opening the application.
Sonos’ solution is still compatible with more than 100 streaming services (Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, etc.), existing subscriptions remain available from within the application, so no matter which platform we use, the music available there will be instantly playable on the connected on devices.
A search bar will now be available on the home screen, with the help of which you can easily search for different artists, songs, podcasts or even audiobooks within the services integrated into the application.
The management of Sonos gadgets is also simplified: with a single upward swipe, all connected devices are displayed, you can see which one is playing, and according to the promises, individual speakers can be paired more easily than before.
A small but extremely useful new feature is that the “now playing” screen will finally have the shuffle and repeat options, and the volume bar will remain visible and manageable on all surfaces of the application, so you will no longer need to go through the menus in the future to navigate back and forth to change the volume.
It is also important that on May 7, the new Sonos update will replace the previous desktop computer solution (Sonos desktop controller), instead, the same functions offered by the renewed application will be available from a browser.
