According to some experts, an undiscovered planet is hiding in the solar system.
Based on a recent study awaiting independent verification, a huge object may be hiding beyond Neptune’s orbit, reports IFLScience. According to the experts, their data provide the strongest statistical evidence to date for the existence of the supposed ninth planet in the solar system.
For some time, some researchers believe that in addition to the eight known planets, a ninth one can be found in our system. Beyond Neptune, certain objects describe strange orbits, and this is explained by the gravity of a local, massive celestial body. Over the years, several alleged proofs have emerged, although many astronomers try to disprove the theory.
Konstantin Batygin and Michael E. Brown, the Caltech team and colleagues recently investigated long-period objects that cross the path of Neptune’s orbit. Batygin and Brown were the first to come up with the ninth planet hypothesis in 2016.
The objects involved are approximately 15-30 AU from our star at their closest point in their orbit to the Sun. To understand the movement of celestial bodies, simulations were carried out.
Based on the results, a massive planet beyond Neptune explains the orbits of the objects much better than if this celestial body were not included in the formula.
The analysis does not narrow down where it is worth researching the planet, but soon, with the opening of the Vera C. Rubin Observatory, they will be able to start looking for the celestial body.
