Instead of a car, Polestar now showed a smartphone

Their next electric car won’t come until next year, but in the meantime, here’s a mobile.

Polestar is a fairly young car brand, in 2017 it became independent from Volvo’s backyard tuning company, although it remained under the control of the Swedes. Just at the beginning of this year, Volvo announced that it would no longer finance the operation, let it be the responsibility of the parent company, the Chinese Geely. Life does not stop there, of course, the Polestar 5 electric car unveiled at the end of last year, for example, will start production next year. Until then, here’s a brand new smartphone from them.

It sounds strange at first, but the other way around, we already know how things work: we first got to know Xiaomi’s mobile phones, and this year they started selling their first car, and the SU7 is also selling very well, if the official communication is to be believed. In retrospect, however, it seems to be a simpler operation, after cars packed with advanced infotainment systems, phone production can almost be a hand exercise.

Of course, it was not the engineers working in the car industry who suddenly joined him, but they teamed up with Xingji Meizu, which is also a Geely interest. For the time being, not much is known about the device, but it is certain that we are dealing with a very thin phone, at least 6.5 inches, with a 21:9 aspect ratio. Of course, it was a central issue to communicate well with Polestar cars, so the applications currently running on the phone are said to open immediately on the vehicle’s on-board system when we start the car.

For now, they have only shared a few pictures on China’s social media, Weibo, but they will hold an official presentation there in the next few days. It is not known if the device is intended to be a global model, and if so, when distribution will start in the rest of the world.
