Suddenly, it’s like watching a video from a computer game. It is hard to believe that we are not only seeing a virtual Volkswagen created by rewriting a few parameters, which sinks into the asphalt that exists as a texture.

However, there is no question of virtual reality, this car exists, of course some trickery was needed to be able to roll in this way. The perpetrator is a Texas car enthusiast, Steve Lodi, in whose head this illusion was born. He did not start the industry today, he has already built a flatbed truck from a Honda Civic sedan, but he has a perfectly restored Volkswagen Beetle from 1958 with a 1.8 liter engine.

His new project is called Half Ass, which I won’t translate now, the point is that he wanted a car for exhibitions that he didn’t have to worry about.

The Italian YouTube channel Carmagheddon is similar Fiat Panda project was inspired by the rusty ruins of a 1974 play. To determine how extremely low the plane could be, Steve lay down on the ground and measured how high he had to raise his head to see out the windshield. After that, he dialed in the correct height with a laser spirit level and took out the hacksaw.

Inside, he built a custom tubular frame and borrowed the drivetrain from a Honda Elite scooter, which is where the fuel system, transmission, engine, brakes and rear wheels come from. Small-sized wheels, available in DIY stores, were placed in front.

Living with such a creature is not easy, according to the owner: “It’s hard to deliver. You can’t really put it on a trailer because you’d need the longest ramp in the world, so I’m going to make some detachable handles that go on the side so you can get it in and out of a truck bed or something. And I should probably make a real seat for it; right now it’s just a piece of wood attached to the frame with a pillow on it.”
