DEAC pushed enough to organize a fifth match in the quarter-final duel against Zalakerámia ZTE KK, winning both home matches in overtime. The same two missed opportunities were experienced by the people of Zala, who easily won twice at home and were, of course, favorites even before the final match.

The visitor started with five Deon Edwin points, he got his triple from a beautifully passed action. On the other side, Ádám Tóth could have made it five, but he missed two penalties, and the German Matthias Zollner, guarding ZTE, complained in the second minute because of a foul during a long throw. And then in the fourth minute, when Tony Hicks, who was breaking for the basket and scoring, was pushed by Bence Neuwirth, but then he had to settle for a personal foul – not long after, the referees videotaped another situation and changed their original ruling to an unsportsmanlike foul.

By the end of the first quarter, ZTE gained a seven-point lead, while the bench complained even when they did not call a foul against the host, saying that Bálin Mócsán was played by being fouled during his triple attempt. His throw didn’t hit the ring, the next one did, this time from a clear position, but there was no thanks either… Andjelko Mandics’ guard couldn’t get close, the Serbian-Hungarian specialist asked for time to organize the lines. Then another one, when Zete restored the eight-point difference after a short catch-up (44-36).

By the end of the first half, they had 10 and 11 points, and at the beginning of the third quarter, the difference quickly became 17 points after Ákos Németh’s possession and sack. Mandics called his men to him again, and soon the deficit was reduced to eight, so the scheduled Zollner time-out could come. DEAC did not want to let their rival go again, they came up 61-56, and then collected a triple from Renan Ona Embo.

Aki received an unsportsmanlike foul in the second minute of the final period, but the guests did not take advantage of the great opportunity. The parties were nervous, the otherwise useful basketball player Ádám Tóth missed his fifth penalty, the stake left its mark on the standard. The offensive time expired once on both sides, the teams were tied 73-66 for the last three minutes. After Edwin’s three-pointer, 43 seconds before the end, ZTE’s lead was only three points, meaning it seemed that one more basket was needed for salvation. It was not necessary: Drenovac scored from a jump shot, before which Ona Embo struggled in vain (75-74). The home team didn’t score from the next attack either, Mócsán had DEAC in the top four, but he stayed there (the throw bounced out of the ring).

In the semi-finals starting on Saturday, the rested defending champion Falco, who won the regular season, awaits ZTE, the western rally is always interesting and exciting, but not much is said in favor of the Zollner crew, which cannot be dissatisfied with their season.

Jeremiah Daniel PAIGE (ZTE)
“Things went well until the third or fourth, then the machine started to falter a little. We made mistakes and they came up. However, our defense carried us through the difficult moments.”

Bálint MÓCSÁN (Debrecen)
“First of all, I wish ZTE the best of luck. All five games were equally intense. I owe credit to our teammates for overcoming such a big disadvantage, and also to the coaching staff, because they did a good job. I’m sorry, but the loss of this match was a bit on me, and I accept that. I don’t just think about my last throw, I also made a mistake during it.”

MASTER SCALE
Matthias Zollner: – We deservedly won and advanced, the spectators also deserve credit. I hope we can play many more matches with good atmosphere in front of our audience. When we led by seventeen points, everything was good, then we got a little scared of success, and in the end, even if it was by a hair, we won. Good defense played a key role in the final result. We are now preparing for Saturday’s game against Falco.
Andjelko Mandics: – ZTE deservedly won, but if we had advanced it would not have been undeserved either. I am proud of the team, because the fifth game was decided on the last throw, although if we were a little smarter, it could have been played earlier. I would like to emphasize that the referees did a good job in all five matches and nothing went wrong.

MASTER SCALE
Tamás Kocsis: – We played in a good rhythm for three quarters, our will prevailed on the field. Unfortunately, we got a little too comfortable at the end, we pulled the opponent on us, but we managed to keep our advantage. Our defense left something to be desired, there is still work to be done in this area.
Sebastian Krasovec: – In most of the meeting, we did not bring enough energy into the match, Körmend gained a significant advantage. We played impatiently, we made many mistakes. Our performance improved in the fourth quarter, we came back into the match, but we didn’t have enough time and energy to win the match.

MASTER SCALE
Dalibor Damjanovic: – My team deserves recognition for the victory, but we have to turn the page and we are already preparing for the championship against Szeged. At the weekend, we have a very important match against an opponent with good individual qualities.
Stojan Ivkovics: – Twenty years ago, I celebrated a cup victory and a championship title with the then team in Kaposvár, and now we have reached the point where this club and my current team are also fighting relegation. It was a good match with only one bad thing, the loss. I just don’t understand the second quarter, but there are matches like that. We don’t give up, we keep going and do everything we can to stay there.
