Index – Sport – Can Hungary win an Olympic medal because of the doping scandal that rocked the sports world?

A few days ago, the news broke that several of the Chinese swimmers who won six medals at the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo were allowed to start despite having tested positive before the pentathlon games. The International Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) claims that the mentioned athletes are innocent, but if they were to be disqualified afterwards, they would add another Olympic medal to Hungary’s name.

Twenty-three of the 30-member Chinese swimming team produced positive doping samples, but they were still able to be there in Tokyo. The Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet learned that WADA also knew about the positive samples, but did not ban the failed athletes. The organization claims that the submitted samples could not be submitted because they were “contaminated”.

In the body of the 23 swimmers, trimetazidine – which increases endurance and the efficiency of blood supply – was present in low concentrations, and the affected swimmers produced several samples that fluctuated between the negative and positive range, which, according to WADA, also proves their innocence, writes the Infostart.

The Chinese swimmers closed the Tokyo pentathlon games with 3 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals. From our point of view, the most important thing is that Csang Yu-fej won the gold medal in the 200 butterfly in the women’s field, and if she were to be disqualified afterwards, Boglárka Kapás, who finished in fourth place, would receive the bronze medal years after the Tokyo Olympics.

And the Hungarian women’s 4×200-meter relay team would jump from seventh place to sixth place, if the results of the Chinese relay were deleted from the records.
