Paks was the first to reach the final of the Hungarian Cup

--

Paksi FC turned around from a disadvantage and beat Kisvárda 2-1 in the semi-finals of the MOL Hungarian Cup on Tuesday night, and with this, they became the first team – and again after 2022 – to win their participation in the final, which will be held on May 15 in the Puskás Arena and Ferencváros or Nyíregyháza will be the opponent.

Pouring rain greeted the teams on the Paks turf, where the first half hour brought an even game. The hosts didn’t look more dangerous than Kisvárda, in fact, approaching the middle of the half, after a corner, the visitors took the lead with Matic’s header. However, the home fans didn’t have to worry much, because Paks, who changed the pace, equalized six minutes later with a well-placed shot by Papp. The Tolna county team remained in momentum, as a result of this, the game took place almost exclusively in the Várda area for a good 10 minutes, and the visitors had to mobilize a lot of strength in defense. However, no more goals were scored until the break, and the tie could be said to be more or less fair.

After the turn, Paks tried to control, and could do so a little more calmly from the 52nd minute on, because Hahn came out with Tóth’s great kick and easily rolled into the goal from 12 meters past the dislocated goalkeeper. In the continuation, the players of both teams became more and more tired, so the number of fouls increased and the number of inaccurate solutions increased significantly. Kisvárda fought tooth and nail for an equaliser, but their attempts were often unsuccessful, and the home team routinely kept the result, and sometimes threatened with quick counterattacks.

In the 91st minute, Camaj hit the crossbar with a great shot, but the Várda team had no more opportunities, so they were eliminated from the cup.
