Márton Fucsovics won the 579,000 euro (230 million HUF) men’s tennis tournament on clay courts in Bucharest, thus winning the second trophy of his career.

The 82nd Hungarian player in the world ranking was able to prepare for the fourth final of his career in the Romanian capital, he won the first in May 2018 in Geneva, then in February 2019 in Sofia, and in March 2021 in Rotterdam, he lost in the final.

He was seeded fifth in Sunday’s battle Mariano Navone he had an opponent he had never met before. The 23-year-old Argentine is currently 52nd in the ATP rankings, one place short of his career peak. He won his second final in Bucharest, having previously lost in the final in Rio in February.

Last year, he made his debut among the professionals by winning five challenger tournaments, but he has never played a main draw match at a Grand Slam tournament, nor has he won a match in the qualifiers, while the main player of the Hungarian national team has already played in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.

Fucsovics got off to a lightning start in the first game, leading 4:0, but Navone equalized and even had a ball to make it 5:4. However, Fucsovics parried this break point, and then in the tenth game he took his opponent’s serve, thereby winning the first set.

In the second game, the Argentinian led 3:1, but Fucsovics overtook his opponent at 4:4, then broke Navone at 6:5 and thus won the final.

The 32-year-old Fucsovics was able to celebrate the tournament victory for the second time after the triumph in Geneva in 2018, and along with the trophy he received 88,125 euros (34.4 million forints), and he is ranked 53rd in the world ranking.

“I won again after a long time, I didn’t expect this result and it’s a great feeling. I worked hard for this success, it was not an easy match, I had to fight all the way.

I thank the audience for their support, many people cheered for me today and sometimes it was like I was at home. Thanks to everyone, including my new coach, Kellner to Ádám too, and I’ll be back next year
