BenQ Cinematic: will there be a native 4K DLP home cinema projector in 2025?

THE BenQ Cinematic presented new at the event W6000L top home cinema projector and it was discussed that the native 4K projector based on 24.9 mm (0.98”) DMD could be ready for “civilian use” by 2025.

THE BenQ Cinematic at the conference, the Chinese display and projector manufacturer presented a new W6000L its top home cinema projector, which is specially designed for indoor spaces longer than 5 meters into an environment optimized for projection recommend.

THE BenQ W6000L the new SSI Dynamic Black™ with black level technology, the demanding optical engine, the mature laser light source, it promises a luminous flux of 2,600 lumens (2,800 ANSI lumens) and is said to produce 1,900 lumens (2,000 ANSI lumens) in standard D65 color temperature and full DCI-P3 color gamut image mode. A 380 cm (150”) diagonal image projected onto a standard gain 1.0 screen with a projector corresponds to DCI (digital cinema) and the THX requirements, reproducing 100% of the DCI-P3 wide color space and providing factory-calibrated (ΔE<2) color accuracy.

THE HLG and HDR10, HDR10+ display the contents as fully as possible a W6000L’s improved dynamic shade mapping and LCE’s thousand-zone precise light control technology strive to ensure.

THE BenQ W6000L additional features known so far are listed in the table below.

One a BenQ Cinematic press conference report it also contains information that many have noticed. Xu Mingfeng the BenQ China Product Center to the question about the transfer of native 4K resolution in DLP home theater projectors, its director answered roughly the following (in parentheses are additions to help the interpretation of the text translated from Chinese): “As for native 4K, the YOU (Texas Instruments) is one of two (DMD) levels for 1.3-inch cinemas (for projectors). We discussed the other, smaller 0.98 (inch) native 4K (DMD image modulator) with our headquarters. 0.98 (inch DMD) costs two things (to apply). It’s one thing to transfer it to civilian use, and another to convert it to 8K with 4x shake (pixel shift). It will probably be around 2025 when we see these (the projectors). The 0.98 chip is larger and you have to find the corresponding optical engine, lens kit, etc., which is another big investment. It currently looks like native 4K and (pixel-shifted) 8K will be delivered in 2025.”

If all this is true, then a BenQ By 2025, it plans to release the first 24.9 mm (0.98”) DMD-based native 4K single-chip DLP projector for so-called “civilian use”.

Currently, only the BARCO (F400-N4K) and the Norxe AS (P50 4K) offers single-chip DLP projectors with native 4K (4,096 x 2,176 pixels) resolution, for example for projecting images of simulation systems, with a high luminous flux and at high prices according to the function.
