In line with the stake, PLER’s away game in Komló was preceded by enormous interest. Points were badly needed for both sides. The fans created a hellish atmosphere right before the starting whistle. The match started again with some noble gestures. The fans of PLER helped the recovery of Ádi Monostori, who was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, by donating money.
Milán Váczi scored our first goal from a penalty in the 4th minute. Merkovszki defended brilliantly, but due to lost balls and our continuous man disadvantage – Vekic was sent off twice in a short period of time – he only ran to equalize. The visitors were ahead of us in order, the scoreboard still showed the visitors’ advantage at the quarter of the match. (5-7) As if a curse was on us, we shot with a high percentage of errors, we could not find a way to Kránitz’s goal.
With Markez’s penalty and then Sunajko’s shot, PLER moved to 4. Váczi improved our situation, but it seemed that everything had to be put on the same page in the second 30 minutes.
During the break, Adél Kertész, the president of the Somogy County Handball Association, handed over the bronze medals to the Komlói KC team, which won the bronze medal in the combined county championship.
The second half started with a Rotim goal, but bad luck continued to haunt us – the ball slipped out of our hands in a flash. With seven minutes to go, the difference was still 5. (19-24)
We kept ourselves in the game with Váczi’s penalties. Thanks to Urbán and Melnicsuk, we got up to 3, Szöllősi even up to two, then Menyhárt brought our team up to one goal twice. An empty goal opportunity and a seven-pointer that was judged in our favor, practically out of time, were also missed, so after nearly 60 minutes of chasing, we failed to score just before the goal.
We have two matches left from the league. We will play both at home: we will end the championship with a derby against Telekom Veszprém and Eger, which will probably decide our fate.
