In addition to the battery, we also receive information about the lifespan of an accessory.

Android 15, which will be released in the second half of the year, is expected to bring a series of new features to users. We already know that the digital wallet will be renewed, the experience of those who play on mobile phones may also be boosted, and Google’s customers would be delighted with many other new functions.

At the end of last year, the company announced that soon the phone itself will inform us about the state of our battery, but now they would go even further. Although flash-based storage technologies are considered extremely reliable compared to any previous solution, they can still fail over time.

The new version of the company’s operating system could be a solution to this, which would show us when the key component, the storage chip, is expected to fail. According to the news, we could also receive this information in the form of a percentage from our device.

According to an English-language magazine, the new function will be found in the Device Diagnostic application together with the stock status indicator. The storage health feature is powered by a new API that displays the remaining life of the internal storage device as an integer.

So, for example, an API value of 70 means that only 70 percent of the expected life of the chip is left. It’s not clear exactly how Android determines the state of a phone’s storage chip, but there are a number of features it can work with.

The destruction of the flash chip or the reduction of its service life can most often be influenced by the extreme temperature effect, to which a smartphone can be exposed significantly more often than other devices. In the summer, the device exposed to the hot sun, long-term intensive use and wired or wireless charging can also damage the unit in question, so their remaining life can really be an important piece of information regarding the expected life of our phone.

The remaining life of Android phones will be the most accurate in the case of Pixel phones, which will show the value in question with an accuracy of one percent, while the devices of other brands will only tell us this every 10 percent. Details will only be revealed in the later release of Android 15.
