Ostrich and emus keepers can also apply for farm development support, the Ministry of Agriculture (AM) told MTI on Saturday. According to the announcement, Sándor Farkas, the Parliamentary State Secretary of the AM, emphasized at the Ostrich Professional Day held in Hajdúnánás on Saturday that there is a future for Hungarian agriculture, including animal breeding, including ostrich breeding, as the special products that can be produced from these animals are becoming more and more popular both on domestic and foreign markets. they can expect growing interest.
As it was written, Sándor Farkas said that in the new subsidy cycle special attention will also be paid to the support of farmers dealing with animal husbandry: in the case of the call for “Support for the development of livestock farms”, the amount of support that can be obtained is a minimum of HUF 200 million and a maximum of HUF 5 billion, for the “Renovation of livestock farms” and in the case of a call entitled “support”, the maximum amount that can be won is HUF 200 million. These calls will be open to a wide range of livestock farms, so ostrich and emus farmers will also be able to apply, they added.
According to the announcement, the Secretary of State explained that the European Parliament and the Council’s decree on the establishment of special hygiene rules for food of animal origin classifies ratites in the “farmed game” category, and they are slaughtered basically in the same way as other terrestrial mammals that do not belong to the “domesticated ungulates” category can happen.
According to Sándor Farkas, this is important because EU regulations, if certain conditions are met, allow the slaughter of farmed game at the place of origin, primarily for the sake of the animals’ welfare and the protection of the staff handling the animals.
