The head of the Prime Minister’s Office did not utter the words China or Chinese, but the fact that negotiations are taking place may remind us of the talks in Beijing by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, as well as the recently announced visit of President Xi Jinping to Budapest on May 8.

Of course, the establishment of a fixed runway connection to the Ferihegy airport has been popping up in announcements for a very long time.

The plan, which until recently was considered official, has almost a decade of history, and for those interested in railway operations, it is more correct to see it not as an airport express train, but as a four-track replacement of the congested suburban line 100a. The essence of the successful development planned and approved by NIF is a two-track line running on a new route between Kőbánya-Kispest and Monor, which would also be part of the eastern branch of the future high-speed network. Long-distance and zoning trains could go on the section with only one stop, namely the underground airport, including the ones currently running on 120a. (This would free up capacity for suburban traffic there as well.) Passenger trains and freight trains with a similar average speed would remain on today’s line, which do not keep up with each other. Overall, this system would therefore not double, but expand the capacities even more.
