The program of the 15-year-old Távhőnap began with a professional conference at 10 a.m. at the Hírös Agóra Cultural Center. The participants could hear lectures on, among other things, renewable energy-based district heating, the situation of the domestic district heating sector and biomass technology. Several accompanying events were connected to the event. Those interested could see the biomass heating plant installed in the southern industrial area of Kecskemét in action, namely with the help of virtual technology – without leaving the Hírös Agóra building.
An exhibition of the works of the ‘Bárányfelhő-bodorító’ creative competition, in which more than 20 Kecskemét institutions were involved, was opened in the same place with drawings and paintings created by the children on the topic of environmental awareness. Anyone who discovered signs showing QR codes on Friday morning on the main square of Kecskemét and scanned one of the codes with their phone could test whether they could answer the questions of the 8-station Távhő Quiz for elementary school students.
THE DEMAND FOR DISTRICT HEAT BASED ON RENEWABLE ENERGY IS CONTINUOUSLY GROWING
The central theme of the professional conference organized on the Day of District Heating Services was integration of renewable energy into the district heating service. In 2022-2023, TERMOSTAR Kft., which is majority-owned by the Kecskemét municipality, carried out the comprehensive development of the district heating network, within the framework of which biomass heating plant was built on the Mindszenti körút, and in total approx The network was expanded with a 6 km long, modern, heat-insulated backbone. THE 20+5 MW heating plant equipped with high-performance biomass boilers, which started operating in December 2023, tested well in this year’s heating season. The utilization of the locally available renewable energy source was further strengthened by the approximately 40,000 Kecskemét consumers involved in the district heating service security of supply, at the same time represented a change of scale in the energy management and greening of the city too. Consumers could already experience the cost-reducing effect of normal operation in this year’s heating season. Residential customers who pay their bills on time one-time HUF 10,000 discount can use, which will be credited in the May district heating bill. The bills of institutions (KKI) and other users were also favorably affected by the introduction of biomass technology. The 14,031 HUF/GJ+VAT required by the ‘District Heat Decree’ effective from October 1, 2023 was modified by TERMOSTAR Kft. – with the approval of the owner’s board – to 7,500 HUF/GJ+VAT. In Kecskemét, the fees of institutional and other users could therefore be reduced to a greater extent than stipulated in the decree with the normal operation of the biomass heating plant.

On District Heating Day, attention was focused on the work of those who ensure the safe heating and hot water supply of more than 40,000 people in Kecskemét 365 days a year. This invisible help makes everyday life more comfortable for 1/3 of the people living in Kecskemét.
