One of the partying youths rolled down the Körös-Torok embankment; not only his injuries had to be attended to, but also his rather alarmed company had to be calmed down. Such and similar tasks were given to the teams that took part in the county round of the 52nd National First Aid Competition in Körös-Tork in Csongrád on Friday.
The well-trained impersonators played the injured person so authentically that when, say, their simulated broken arm was moved by the first responders, they even wailed. Not by chance; the event was partly about the contestants proving themselves in a rather unexpected, realistic situation. Teams of 5 people from all over the county came to the event of the Csongrád-Csanád County Organization of the Hungarian Red Cross in the child, youth and adult categories to show their lay first aid skills.
Part of the competition is about well-made decisions in unexpected situations, since learning the basics of first aid is child’s play, but you also have to pay attention to countless other things. In addition to the care of the injured, the jury also evaluated whether the participants paid attention to their own safety, how they communicated, how they behaved, whether they were able to cooperate as a team
Krisztina Sasvári, director of the Csongrád-Csanád County of the Hungarian Red Cross, told our newspaper.
He also emphasized:
in a real situation, many people don’t dare to do it, even though a phone call can save a life. It is important that everyone provides help to the level that can be safely undertaken for them.
The Hungarian Red Cross regularly organizes first aid courses two or three times a month, mainly in Szeged. Anyone can join.
In the adult and youth categories, the teams of the Bedő Albert Forestry Vocational High School, Vocational High School and College in Ásotthalm finished in first place.
And in the children’s category, the team of Ferenc Kiss Elementary School and Elementary Art School in Ásotthalm.
