Mayor Dr. Ernő Görgényi said that they plan to renovate the property known as the rabbi’s house within the framework of the TOP Plusz tender system, based on the documents already accepted by the board, and to develop it for cultural and tourist purposes. The real estate is owned by the Association of Hungarian Jewish Religious Communities, but according to the tender notice, you can only apply for real estate that is owned by the majority municipality. The association therefore proposed that 51/100ths of it, i.e. the majority, be given to the local government as a donation under the legal title of gift. The mayor highlighted that, in addition to the free acquisition of property, the terms of the contract include the establishment of usufruct rights in favor of the Association of Hungarian Jewish Communities and other guarantees in order to ensure that the development for cultural and tourist purposes is carried out in accordance with the spirit of the community represented by the association.

The board also made an important decision regarding the renovation of the rabbi’s house in Gyula.

At the board meeting, it was also discussed that this year the 300th anniversary of the settlement of the Germans in Gyula will be celebrated, for which the local German minority municipality is preparing for a large-scale celebration in October.

In this regard, Lajosné Kovács addressed the representative body with a request. In honor of the 300th anniversary of the settlement of the Germans in Gyula, they intend to erect a plaque in the name of the descendants. The place of the plaque was marked on the main front wall of the Szent József church on Apor Vilmos tér, next to the side entrance. The board agreed to the erection of the memorial plaque, on which the following inscription would be written: Commemorative plaque on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the settlement of the Germans in Gyula, thanks to God, it was erected by the descendants and the Parish of Our Lady of Nád as a sign of their love.
