At the preliminary hearing, the prosecutor did not elaborate on how the attack took place, but according to RTL News the prison guards allegedly hit the prisoner’s head against the wall and then kicked him on the ground. The prisoner was seriously injured, while he was unable to defend himself as his hands were handcuffed.
Among the 7 defendants is a centurion who expressed his agreement with the other prison guards by not reporting the incident to his commander. Similarly to a female prison guard who may have also witnessed the incident.
The prosecutor’s office asked for a punishment for the accused for group assault: the punishment may vary depending on the role they played in the fight. The most severe punishment would be 6 years and 6 months imprisonment.
During the proceedings, none of the prison guards admitted to the crime, so the case continues with a trial until the final verdict is reached.
