Borsod24 podcast. We’re not afraid to talk about it – with this title, our news portal launched its latest program, where Tamás Bethlen, editor of Borsod24, talked with Kinga Szabó-Tóth, a sociologist from the University of Miskolc, and Sándor Fekete, a political scientist. Among others, Pál Veres, József Tóth-Szántai, László Lehoczki Spider and Péter Magyar were discussed in connection with the local government and European Parliament elections on June 9.

It has now been decided that eight people will compete for the position of mayor of Miskolc. Sociologist Kinga Szabó-Tóth and political scientist Sándor Fekete, although they look at it from different fields, they mostly see the events taking place on the political stage in a similar way.

According to Kinga Szabó-Tóth, many people apply for positions, but it is not certain that they would take on the responsibility. He emphasized that two of the eight candidates are women. Sándor Fekete believes that only one candidate can be linked to the current government parties. In addition to the two self-proclaimed prophets who made their debut at the last minute, the others are also connected to parties on some level. It is not at all certain that these eight names will be on the June 9 ballot.

The sociologist also talks about how he found Pál Veres’ Facebook post, in which he described that he was tired at work, to be very honest. “Let’s not forget what kind of coalition he had to hold together as an independent, not a party politician, which is already a huge difficulty, even if you are an experienced politician.” DK’s exit from the Miskolc coalition could be foreseen. All of these contributed to the current situation. The political scientist added to this how frustrating it must have been when the faction did not even vote on its own proposal in the general assembly. Humanly, he understands that Pál Veres is tired in this fight. Among the eight candidates there are returning faces, such as István Fülöp József or Zoltán Pakusza, who are almost bound to start in Miskolc. László Lehoczki was also an expected candidate, in the city of Péter Jakab. According to him, Zsolt Fintor and András Dohány only applied on a whim.

Basically, the question here is who will be second behind József Tóth-Szántai? Fidesz has a stable voter base in Miskolc. Thirty-five thousand voted for Pál Veres last time, this number will now be divided. The question is who mobilizes better?

László Barkai or Andrea Varga? Both Zoltán Pakusza and Lehoczki have a stable voter base, so the opposition pie is sliced much better. Any backsliding in favor of the other candidate depends on the big politics and the local ensemble. Eighteen districts are relatively easier to divide, Sándor Fekete believes.

If you want to find out what the guests of the show think about the candidacy of Zsolt Fintor, the role of László Lehoczki and the chances of the candidates, listen to our show.
