Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky announced that Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Croatia are members of the Central European Defense Cooperation established in 2010 on Austria’s initiative, but the defense leaders of the Western Balkan countries were also invited to the event in Hungary, as they play an important role in the security issues of the region. the Balkan region has a role to play. The head of the ministry pointed out that peace is the most important topic these days, which is why they are trying to voice this in every forum, since “the decisions of Western Europe fall on us”.
The minister emphasized: the countries of the Western Balkans have been the outbreak points of wars for centuries, countries strained by economic and religious tensions, but at the same time, Central Europe and Hungary are interested in peace. That is why it is important to speed up the European Union integration of the affected states, while according to the “major politics” other countries should be added to the ranks of the member states, which, according to him, is not realistic. Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky reminded that several Western Balkan countries have been waiting for accession for many years, although Their EU membership would bring stability to Europe, open up markets and thus economic growth for the entire Union. He cited Croatia as an example, in which accession was a great success, and because of this, “this is the way” for Serbia and other countries as well.
The minister also spoke about illegal migration, which is also one of the main routes in the Western Balkans.
