You couldn’t even notice it last year, because kangaroo newborns are born in an almost embryo-like state after a month’s pregnancy. At this point, they are only the size of a gelatinous bean, completely blind and naked, but they are already able to breathe through their noses and drink breast milk through their mouths.

With the help of their clawed forelimbs, they climb into the pouch and attach to one of the nipples there, which they do not let go of for months afterwards – explained the conditions of reproduction and upbringing of the marsupials in a statement from the Capital Zoo.

The name is not accidental, because the mother kangaroo can close and open the purse with the help of muscles in the same way as our great-grandparents used the string to hold money in the leather bag.

The Bennett or red-necked kangaroo belongs to the medium-sized species. These animals are native to eastern and southeastern Australia, the island of Tasmania, and some surrounding smaller islands. Since winter snow can occur in part of their natural habitat, they easily adapt to the domestic climate, so they do not need, for example, a heated winter shelter, they only need to be provided with a covered, wind-protected place.
