Index – Abroad – David Pressman criticized the government’s peace proposal

--

David Pressman, the ambassador of the United States to Hungary, on Wednesday https://twitter.com/USAmbHungary/status/1783154823434490105 In a video he shared, he said: Hungary is openly asking the United States and other allies to stop military support for Ukraine in order to force an immediate ceasefire and peace talks.

He also said that the United States also wants peace, they want this war to end. However, according to him, the Hungarian proposal does not hold up in reality.

Does Hungary really believe that if our partners and allies no longer provide military support to Ukraine, while it is fighting for mere survival on its own territory, then Russia will sit at the negotiating table? Or would he do what he has already done elsewhere, to lay his hands on even more territory, plunder even more property, deprive the people of the country of their freedom to an even greater extent, and kidnap even more children?

asked the American ambassador.

He believes that Hungarian politics is based on the illusion that the disarmament of Ukraine will stop Putin. However, history shows, he added, that the opposite would happen. According to him, this is not a peace proposal, but capitulation.

“This attitude is a far cry from the Transatlantic Alliance, which stood firm against the Soviet empire and emerged from the struggle unscathed and strengthened as the Soviet Union collapsed,” David Pressman said.

As reported by Index, the American ambassador held a Seder evening at his residence on Tuesday, April 23. Based on the pictures, historian Mária Schmidt, director general of the House of Terror Museum and pastor Gábor Iványi also participated in the event.
