Duna Aszfalt can build the most expensive Danube bridge ever in Hungary

Duna Aszfalt won the tender for the construction of the new Danube bridge in Mohács and the road network connected to it, Világgazdaság wrote.

The tender was issued by the Ministry of Construction and Transport (ÉKM), the open EU procedure started in September last year, the final bid deadline was November 23, 2023. Three companies submitted bids for the construction of the new Danube bridge:

  • the Duna Aszfalt Út és Mélyépítő Zrt.,
  • Strabag Építő Kft.
  • and Swietelsky Magyarország Kft.

In the end, Duna Aszfalt, which made the cheapest offer of HUF 294.96 billion, won the contract.

The signing of the contract is still pending, as the moratorium, which lasts until May 6, must first expire. Until now, it is possible to challenge the result of the public procurement procedure.

Duna Aszfalt, the road construction company of László Szíjj from Tiszakécske, is regularly successful in public procurement. According to the 2023 compilation of the 100 richest Hungarians publication, Szíjj is the sixth richest Hungarian with an estimated fortune of HUF 280 billion. He was the owner of the luxury yacht Lady MRD, on board of which Lőrinc Mészáros and Minister of Foreign Affairs Péter Szijjártó had previously visited.

Strabag made a net offer of HUF 309.96 billion and Swietelsky a net offer of HUF 316.028 billion for the bridge in Mohács. Last December, Minister of Construction and Transport János Lázár estimated that the new Danube bridge could be built from HUF 300-320 billion net.

The plans for the new Mohács bridge, as well as the road network between the M6 ​​highway section connecting to it and highway No. 51, were prepared by Speciálterv Építőjenőgi Kft. on behalf of Nemzeti Infrastructura Fejlsztő Zrt. According to the data on the company’s website, the total area of ​​the three-span steel bridge will be 18,000 square meters. The one in Mohács will be the 21st bridge on the Hungarian section of the Danube, the 20th is the Danube bridge in Kalocsa, which is essentially already completed, and its handover is due this summer.
