The block type VVER-1200 being built on the Paks is equipped with several passive safety systems, and Magyar Építók now writes that the Paks II will soon set sail. the first completed large equipment in its history, the zone melt trap of block 5.

The specialist portal also mentions that passive security systems do not require human intervention or an external energy source. The fulfillment of their function is ensured by simple physical processes, and in the event of a failure of these active safety systems, they replace them and provide cooling.

This is a special tank that is located under the reactor tank and is capable of receiving zone melt in the event of its damage.

If necessary, the steel tank of the melt trap can be cooled externally with boric water. It was also detailed that the equipment is one of the special safety-enhancing solutions of the improved third-generation VVER-1200 type blocks. The innovative equipment developed by Russian engineers will be located under the reactor vessel and will be suitable for receiving zone melt in the event of its damage.

The significant milestone that can be noted is Paks II. in the history of the project, that the zonal melt trap of block 5, which is the heaviest piece of equipment in the nuclear power plant, was completed: It weighs more than 730 tons, and its height exceeds 15 meters. Due to its weight, the high-tech device will arrive at the Paks site by water.
