This charming Hungarian village has been voted one of Europe’s most beautiful hidden gems

--

Many well-known destinations in Europe can be said to be Instagram-worthy, we only need to think of Cinque Terre or Burano to mention the most well-known. However, there are lesser-known destinations that also fascinate people, and among them we can also find a Hungarian village.

But such is the case, for example, of the small Spanish town Villajoyosa, hidden between Alicante and Benidorm, which was chosen as this year’s best secret destination by European Best Destinations.

In second place on the list is another Spanish city, Ares del Maestre, third was the impressive Primošten on the Croatian coast, and Hungary just missed the podium with the floating village of Bokod.

Primosten

TimeOut magazine, which presents the results, also devotes a separate paragraph to the tiny fishing village located about eighty kilometers west of Budapest, which, as it says, consists of houses built on stilts. The lake was created in 1961 as a cooling lake for the then-built Oroszlány power plant. Although the plant closed in 2015, the destination remains popular with photographers.
