A new bicycle track is being built in the City Sports and Leisure Center in Edeleny. The investment will be realized from HUF 31.5 million, for which Edelény City Municipality received a non-refundable subsidy of HUF 24 million. The plans are implemented by Bringapark Kft., and the works are expected to be completed by May 15.

Fans of cycling sports in Edelweiss can use another place. The new sports facility consists of a one hundred and fifty six square meter pump court and a fourteen square meter children’s court.

In Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county, bicycle tracks have been completed and are being built in several places as part of the National Bike Park Program. Borsodi Hír reported last year that the expansion of the already built bike park was signed in Kazincbarcik for HUF 22.8 million.

Based on the news from bringazas.hu, the original twenty-kilometer park was started to be built in 2020. Borsodi Hír also informed us that, based on an agreement signed last fall, they are planning to create a multifunctional bike park in Miskolc’s Avastető for nearly sixty million. According to our information, there is also a bike garden in Szikszó.

At the beginning of 2020, bringázás.hu reported on the National Bike Park program, which was launched with a subsidy of 400 million. Máriusz Révész, the government commissioner responsible for active Hungary, justified the launch of the program by promoting cycling: “Bike parks provide an opportunity for active sports, where families can spend their free time in a safe, but at the same time, rich in experience environment, and they can also serve the purposes of educating young cyclists very well.”

In addition to the bike tracks in Edelény, the extension of the bike park in Kazincbarcika, the bike park in Miskolc and, based on Heol’s information, the bike pump track in Gyöngyös, also known as the Gyöngyös Vulkán Pump Track, which was handed over in the summer of 2023, was also built by Bringapark Kft. Based on company information, the registered capital of the Csömör-based company, founded in 2022 and employing three people, barely exceeds HUF eight million, and their sales revenue reached HUF 31 million.

Applications for the renewed National Bicycle Park Program 2024 could be submitted for just one month between November 13 and December 15, 2023, and the plans must be built by the end of this year – based on the information on the website kerekparpalya.hu. Applicants could apply for a maximum of HUF 30 million in support for the pumping stations.

The aim of the projects is still “to support meaningful and healthy leisure opportunities in Hungary, by creating new bike parks, or by supporting the renovation of existing bike parks (except for the development carried out with previous support during the maintenance period). Promoting an active, healthy lifestyle.” A big difference, however, is that, unlike previous years, the design documentation was not required to submit the application, only the area intended for the course had to be presented and the level of self-reliance had to be declared.
